Idioms That Stick

An idiom is a group of words that don't really hold a meaning. Some examples:

  • “You’re full of baloney.” - as tasty as it is, it’s made with the scraps or has little value.

  • “Once in a blue moon” - very rare

  • “Beat around the bush” - to avoid the main topic.

  • "Don't judge a book by its cover."

  • “Break a leg” - to wish someone luck.

  • “Blow someone away” - to be impressed.

  • “Black sheep” - the outcast.

  • “The cat would eat fish but not wet her feet.” - the stress to take risks

  • “Fish out of water” - someone in a new situation.

  • “Head in the clouds” - thinking unpractical thoughts

  • “Haven’t the foggiest idea.” - to not know something at all.
